British Sandwich Week (May 9-15th) presents a great opportunity to celebrate one of Britain’s institutions – the sandwich.
Since being uncovered and named by the 4th Earl of Sandwich in 1762, the Great British Sandwich has become something of an institution and, in recent years, Britain’s single most important food.
Each year we eat in excess of 11.5 billion sandwiches, some 3 billion made by a commercial industry that now employs over 330,000 people.
Unlike so many other foods today, the average sandwich is wholesome, healthy (how much so depend on the filling you choose) and ideally suited to today’s lifestyles where people want foods that are portable and easy to eat.
The Focus of the Association during the lead up to British Sandwich Week will simply be to talk up sandwiches through the media in every way possible.
To achieve this we will be launching a new industry report as well as providing lots of information for the media (radio, TV and newspapers) that can be used for features and programmes.
In addition the Association will be talking to radio chat shows about the Great British Sandwich and that’s an opportunity for you as well as we can often arrange competitions and get publicity for the industry through branded prizes.
The Association will also support individual businesses by helping them to get publicity locally. Prizes are a great way to do this and can often lead to you getting involved with chats on local radio stations, which can be great publicity for your business.
If you would like to take advantage of this, give Director Jim Winship a call (or send him an email) and he will try to help. You can call him on 01291 636331.
