Solway was founded in 1988 and is today one of the UK's leading manufacturers of fresh salads and sandwiches with an annual turnover in excess of £80million. Solway has developed over the last 10 years into a company with some of the most technically advanced factories in the chilled food industry. The company was the first in the country to manufacture sandwiches using a Leider machine. The investment in this equipment increased capacity without additional labour.

Solway also invests in equipment to aid development. In 1997, a chargrilling facility was installed which enabled the business to develop products using chargrilled vegetables and launch a new flavour that continues to grow in popularity.
