  • Uniq plc has won an increased share of M&S’s sandwich business, a result of the retailer’s decision to cut costs and consolidate its sandwich supply base. Additional sandwich business is also believed to have gone to Northern Foods’ Gunstones Bakery. Hain Celestial, its third supplier, has lost out.
  • The future of the ex-Gibsons Devizes sandwich factory is in doubt. Owner Ultimate Foods says the site is not viable as a production unit in its current form in the long-term, after conducting “a careful analysis of the business operation.
  • Sandwich manufacturers around the country are likely to be double-checking their workers’ documentation after ten agency staff were arrested at Buckingham Foods’ Milton Keynes factory on suspicion of working without entitlement.
