The Environmental Challenges of packaging was the latest webinar, organised by The British Sandwich & Food to Go Association and the Pizza Pasta & Italian Food Association.

The main speaker was Trewin Restorick, of Hubbub, a charity that transforms the way environmental messages are communicated by bringing people and organisations together as a force for good.

In 2020, Hubbub won Charity of the Year and Trewin was recognised with a Global Leader of the Year award and in 2021 he won the Business Green ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’.  

Trewin has a track record of creating successful environmental enterprises including PaperRound a flourishing recycling business and Global Action Plan a long-established environmental charity. These enterprises were created built on experience gathered through roles he filled at Friends of the Earth where he was Director of Fundraising and at Plymouth City Council where he supported the creation of new social enterprises.

Trewin is a frequent media commentator on environmental issues and was trained by Al Gore as one of his climate change ambassadors. He is currently an environmental advisor to Tetra Pak, the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and the National Lottery Climate Fund. The second speaker is Gareth Morton of Ecosurety, the market-leading and B Corp certified compliance scheme investing in quality recycling.

Gareth manages a portfolio of infrastructure, innovation and education projects as part of Ecosurety’s mission to improve recycling in the UK. He manages the Flexible Plastic Fund, the nationwide collaborative fund intending to stimulate infrastructure development to make flexible plastic recycling financially sustainable in the UK. Gareth is a specialist in behaviour change and recognises the critical importance of the human element in recycling schemes and services. His communications and engagement work has won industry awards.

Gareth has worked right across the waste materials spectrum from packaging waste to batteries, HHW and WEEE. With more than 1,000 customers including Danone, the Co-operative Group, Innocent and Virgin Media, Ecosurety supports efficient and more transparent investment in UK recycling projects via infrastructure, innovation and consumer awareness campaigns.
